Expressive Arts The Expressive Arts include Drama, Art and Design and Music. These aesthetic subjects are developed in a planned progressive way throughout all stages. Throughout the year, theatre companies visit the school and our pupils have the opportunity to participate in our own school productions. Specialist support is provided in music at all stages.

Music
Physical Education Children gain experience and knowledge of the important role of exercise within our Health and Wellbeing programme. This includes Active Health, gymnastics, dance, sports and games.

Learning in health and wellbeing ensures that children and young people develop the knowledge and understanding, skills, capabilities and attributes which they need for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing now and in the future. Curriculum for Excellence: Health and Wellbeing ( Principles and Practice)
Health and Wellbeing permeates the whole curriculum. Children enjoy 2 hours of Physical Education a week as well as extra-curricular opportunities.
Languages
Using a variety of relevant resources and teaching strategies we endeavour to develop pupil competence, confidence, and enjoyment in listening, talking, reading and writing.
Our core reading materials are “Jolly Readers” and “ Ginn ” which are supported by a variety of resources that help with pupils’ language development. We also use Nelson Handwriting, Spelling, Nelson English, and “Big Writing” together with a variety of reference and fiction books.
Mathematics
Staff use a variety of methodologies to teach every pupil sound mathematical knowledge, skills and encourage an inquiring mind. The development of mental maths skills is a priority.
A carefully structured and balanced maths programme which includes money, measurement, shape, position and movement, problem-solving and enquiry is followed by each child. The emphasis is on practical work and active learning.
A wide range of resources is employed so that important mathematical skills and ideas can be developed. Mathematical games and computer.

Religious and Moral Education
The main aim of Religious Education in our school is to teach the Catholic Faith to the children in a way that is appropriate to their age and circumstances. Our aim is to help children deepen their faith and live out Gospel values.

Social Studies and the Sciences
These curricular areas may be approached individually or integrated into carefully managed programmes of topic studies. Our pupils are often given choice in selecting topics to study and are encouraged to bring in items of interest to further develop their learning. Films, books, T.V., radio, computer programmes, visiting speakers and educational visits can all be used to consolidate the skills and content of Environmental Studies. National and local Guidelines are closely followed to ensure that themes, concepts and skills are built on as each child develops.
