A Team Matches

Sheridan Cup Final

Friday 19th June 2009

St Fillan's 6 - 1 Our Lady of the Rosary

There was a strong wind blowing and this kept us in our own half for much of the game. Long punts from their keeper put the defence under pressure, giving OLR a few corners.

It was from one of these that the ball was scrambled over the line.

The boys were not put off and came back strongly in the second half.

Some great goals were scored the best being from Aidan Gallagher with goal of the match and Andrew Orr putting in a great performance to be man of the match, but really, well done to all again !

Great performance and a fitting end to the season.

Buster McManus Final

Thursday 18th June 2009

St Fillan's 6 - 2 St Bridget's

The boys played well again even if the "shape" was lost a few times, as everyone started to look for goals.

We were 2 - 0 up after 15mins and we did well despite playing twelve men.

Some of the refereeing decisions were bizarre. Sean Harley was man of the match with Ryan Smith getting goal of the match.

Semi Final

Sheridan Cup

St Fillan's 8 - 0 St Columbkille's

This was an ill tempered affair with the referee conceding defeat after the first half.

Having said that the boys were playing some amazing football. At times it really looked like a pro-youth team on the pitch. Man of the match was the unsung James McGowan with Goal of the match from Michael O'Donnell. Special mention to Conor Devine who again, put in a fine shift.

Semi Final

Buster McManus

St Fillan's 6 - 0 St Francis of Assissi

The boys played very well even if the "shape" wasn't always there.

A good performance with a cracking goal from Aidan Gallagher and a man of the match from Conor Devine.

All of the subs got on again, and all were able to make a positive contribution.

Sheridan Cup

St Vincent's 1 - 11 St Fillan's

Final League game in the Sheridan Cup

The boys were on fire again and were 6 - 0 up by half time. Kept on going in the second half to run away 11 - 1 winners.

Man of the match was Conor Devine again and goal of the match came from Aidan Gallagher. Well done again boys.

Sheridan Cup

Monday 1st June 2009

St Fillan's 6 - 2 St Francis

Boys were great again on a very tight pitch. We were able to go 4 - 0 up by half time. Because the boys were playing so well I managed to put on all the subs at half time. A brilliant decision as we immediately let in two goals to go to 4 - 2 Credit to the boys again as they got back to form with another two goals to finish. Conor Devine as man of the match with Ryan Smith getting goal of the match with one from the training ground!

Maryhill Championship Final 2009

Saturday 30th May 2009

St Fillan's 4 - 1 St Bridget's

Treble Winners

Maryhill in the sun again. It was a warm day and a great day for football.

We started slow (as always) and were not quite awake enough to stop St Bridget's from scoring. Good heart from the boys meant that we leveled the score prior to half time. In the second half the boys were superb. 2 goals scored and Kyle scoring a cracker from outside the box with a rifled shot.. Men of the match in Conor Devine and Michael O'Donnell Special mentions to Ryan Smith and Neil Cunninghame.

Carruth Cup - Final

St Fillan's 7 - 0 St Brendan's

Another good night for St Fillan's. Sean Harley opened the scoring with a fine goal calmly taken. Conor Devine (man of the match) scored four. Count them four...

Goal of the match was a curled free kick from Ryan Smith and another man of the match in Kyle Chyrstal. Well done St Fillan's!

Brother Eustace League Playoff
Monday 11th May

St Fillan's 5 - 0 St Brigid's
The sun was shining on the big Maryhill pitch when the boys lined up for the league decider.
St Brigid's started well and managed to cope with everything St Fillan's threw at them for over 20 mins. The breakthrough came from Stephen Tomkins, who wouldn't let anything go
and pounced on a loose ball, to score the first. This was soon followed by another four and St Fillan's ran off well worthy winners.
Two man of the matches went to Ryan and Aidan who were excellent and strong in the midfield. Two goals of the match went to Conor Devine (superb strike) and Michael O'Donnell who hit a wonder strike.
Special mentions also has to be given to the two centre backs Andrew Orr (Captain) and Kyle Chrystal who were immense and gave us another clean sheet. Most pleasing was the performance and the behavior of the boys who were a real credit to themselves and the school and thoroughly enjoyed their "day in the sun !"
